"First Snowfall"

Feels like the snow came in a little early this year; the temperatures had been in the eighties and then suddenly cooled. Previously, there'd been only the barest hint of fall in the air only a few trees had even started to change color.

the treehouse in show

The aspens had suffered a lot of damage from the deer last winter. They never had before, but for whatever reason, the bark was stripped almost entirely off several of them. The ones that had survived the summer were badly infested or infected, and I'd removed the last one from the south gardens the weekend before the snow.

But the rest of the trees had survived unscathed, and this time none of them lost branches from the weight of the early snow collecting on their leaves, the way so many trees had in the September snowfall several years ago when so many trees lost limbs, taking down power lines in the process, that most of the Denver area was without power for up to a week.
